The project:

We are the PLEES team, a group of PhD students from the University of Vienna, concerned with the climate crisis. In the spring of 2022 we came together in the frame of the Vienna International School of Earth and Space Science (VISESS), a programme dedicated to broadening the horizons of doctoral students and promoting interdisciplinary cooperation. We created the PLEES index to help disseminate information on climate change and how it will impact our lives.

The project has been presented at several conferences:

The Team:

Laurane Fréour

"I am a PhD student in astrophysics, night sky and nature lover. Concerned by the climate and social crisis, developing the PLEES project helped me to deal with my eco-anxiety through offering an interdisciplinary way to communicate about climate change."

Paula Granero

"As a Geology PhD student, one of my research interests is micropalaeontology. Through an analysis of assemblages of calcareous nannofossils, my research aims to shed light on separate palaeoclimatic and palaeoceanographic events that occurred more than 70 million years ago. I wanted to participate in the PLEES project because I am concerned not just about the present but also the future."

Gwenaël Van Looveren

"I am a PhD student in astrophysics studying atmospheres. A big part of my research focuses on the habitability of exoworlds, which is a constant reminder of how fragile and precious our world is. Through the PLEES project I hope to share how fast our world can change."

Tadeja Veršič

"I am a PhD student in astrophysics and by nature a very curious and passionate person. I got involved in the PLEES project because I am concerned about our future and wanted to contribute to making the world a bit better."
